Lesson philosophy

What does learning music bring to us? The goal of the lessons I aim to provide is to assist students in building a lifelong friendship with music, an intangible asset, through studying piano. Learning piano isn’t just about facing the instrument once a week for 30 minutes, while being scolded for playing wrong notes. I’d like to share my thoughts on the benefits of learning piano.

The first benefit from music is quite simple. It’s the joy of being able to read sheet music and play your favorite pieces. Through practice and gradual improvement, acquiring patience, and the sheer delight when music takes shape are invaluable. Moreover, the skill of reading sheet music is lifelong. In our studio, we aim for steady progress by nurturing solid sight-reading skills using appropriate materials tailored to each student. If you have a favorite piece in mind, please let me know. I’d be delighted to accompany you on the journey to mastering it.

The second benefit is a broader perspective. Music categorized under the umbrella of “classical music” has a long history dating back to ancient times. Though we only scratch the surface by playing pieces from this vast repertoire, music has always been intertwined with society and continuously evolved. Learning music allows us to experience and deepen our understanding of the cultural context in which the music originated. Our studio primarily focuses on classical music repertoire, enabling students to play piano, learn the styles of different eras, understand composers’ philosophies, and become part of that musical culture. I want you to experience the joy of perceiving history not just as the passage of time but as something real and relevant to you.

The third benefit is more personal. Music connects you with others. Whether it’s people who love music, those who listen to your performances, those who have played the same piece, or those you perform with, music creates unexpected bonds that enrich your life in surprising ways. Even if you step away from the piano someday, music remains as a cherished treasure. I strive to provide lessons where music serves as such a treasure. I would be delighted to assist you in building a rich life with the help of the connections music brings.
